Hospice Experiences

Sandy Muskovitz Danto

I am grateful to JHCN for honoring life by dignifying death from a Jewish philosophical and spiritual framework. Individuals and families struggling with terminal or chronic illness and end-of-life issues are validated and comforted when they receive support from Hospice's professional and volunteer corps. JHCN guarantees that everyone in our wonderful Jewish community can receive compassionate care, respect, and a complement of supplemental services.

I have witnessed the profound impact of JHCN's fine work as the immediate past president of Jewish Family Service (JFS). JHCN stories are often tinged with sadness, yet are inspiring and life-changing for those who are involved, those who provide care, and those who contribute to the organization's viability. The partnership between JFS and JHCN has helped hundreds in our community, from all socio-economic and age groups. Since its inception in 1999, the JHCN office has been housed at JFS, facilitating a Lifelinks Program access network that includes social workers, bereavement counselors, and geriatric care managers. The JFS volunteer department recruits, trains, and provides oversight to hospice volunteers who establish relationships with patients and family members.

Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network is not a medical hospice, but its clergy bring therapeutic healing to the heart and soul of each client. Every Southeast Michigan medical hospice works with and admires the innovative care of JHCN.

My husband Jim and I support JHCN because they perform daily acts of kindness and compassion without charging a fee. We are proud and blessed to be able to do so and hope you will join us.
