How fortunate is our community to have a Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network to meet the needs of our loved ones with a Jewish presence at the end of life?
Miriam and I are proud to have funded the Shenkman Caregiving Fellowship Team to enable the training of personnel who serve the needs of those at the end of life. The JHCN staff has trained rabbis, social workers, directors, administrative staff and volunteers who work with medical hospice professionals and palliative care personnel. They continue our mutual vision to make certain no family, no Jew is ever alone at the end of life.
Miriam and I had the opportunity to attend the first seminar for hospice caregivers in our community, at which time there were a few hospitals and agencies who responded and perhaps 50 people in attendance. From those humble beginnings has grown a Caring Coalition with representatives from all the area hospitals, nursing homes and elder care facilities totaling approximately 800 caregivers who do their jobs better because of the hard work and effort of Jewish Hospice & Chaplaincy Network.
The requests for care and service have risen to almost 500 people per year, and continue to increase each year. Jewish Hospice is a vital component in our Jewish community. It is our privilege to be involved and we are proud to offer our time and financial help to this dedicated organization. A donation to the Jewish Hospice & Chaplaincy Network is the best investment we can make in our community.
I care about Jewish patients and their families.
